Problems with my 87 740

Post by cap985 »

Hi, My car runs well but when it warms up you can't get it to go faster than 60 mph. If you accelerate beyond that it jerks and shudders like it's not getting enough gas. When it first starts up it will accelerate as normal until the engine gets warm. I have changed the O2 sensor, heat sensor, the fuel filter and have done all of the normal tune up things, plugs wires etc. Ithought that as the problem is heat related it would be the heat sensor but that made no difference. I also fixed a wire that looked suspect but nothing so far has made any difference. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It's probably the catalytic converter clogging. When it heats up all the junk inside expands and blocks the exhaust. Pay attention to the sound of the car. The exhaust should get louder and change pitch or make a hissing sound.
I've run into this many times on cars I've had.
If it is clogging it will probably ruin your new O2 sensor.
