98 s70 230000 miles codes and tune up

Post by mrealtor »

Ok, engine misfiring, scaned and codes are;
PO172, PO300,01,05,PO442,PO455, I am thinking plugs,wires,cap and rotor. Replacing rubber elbow connectors, easy one on back of engine to a shiny thing, and harder one under PSteering and upper radiator hose, any other ones? What kind of plugs, Autolite Iridium? Borsch? wires Borsch? Duralast? All suggestions helpful as always,

i just changed out my 850 R's wires, caps, rotor, and distributor at 137K...hope i'm still doing it at 230K like you. I used Bosch parts for everything, the sparkplugs I used were bosch copper plugs, which the engine seems to like. http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exec/p ... ory_id/225

is your s70 a turbo or non turbo?

I think you're on the right track to tracking down those codes. The vacuum elbows and tune-up kit should take care of most of your problems, then clear the codes and see what comes back.

For wires, use the OEM Bougicord wires ONLY.

For plugs, it's more of your choice. Most recommend the Bosch Copper plugs, which I currently have. I used single-prong Autolite Platinums and liked them very much. Regardless of what you get, they should be gapped to .028". Don't use multi-prong plugs unless you buy the OEM Volvo 3-prong plugs.

Thank again, Volvites, I went on Groton and ordered the tune up kit, all Volvo parts made by Borsch, plus air filter. Can't wait to get started, niether can my wife since, I am sharing her Truck. I don't want to drive the Volvo while it is misfiring. I asked before but are there any other vacuum connectors I haven't mentioned.
Thanks again

Whoops, missed that one :mrgreen:

Since you'll have to move the airbox and all that junk out of the way anyway to get to the distributor cap, pull out the battery and tray and have a look at the vacuum elbow under the tray, and the J-hose on your EVAP canister, and the vacuum hose on the cruise control pump as a preventive measure. There are several more at the intake manifold and under the IAC black cover on the right side of the engine block.

Thanks I think, really thanks I am sure with the age of the rubber and the heat down here in Florida, I will find several if not all of these that need replacing. Gives me something to do while I wait for UPS.

I know what you are talking about with warm weather cars - I bought a Porsche 944 for my daughter in Phoenix and everything that used to be rubber is like a rock.

If you want to end the grief forever check out the kits from Stylinmotors - http://www.stylinmotors.com/volvo.html . The vacuum line kits are down the page a bit after the intercooler kits.
