boost control
I have a 1999 S70 GLT (low pressure turbo) I installed a homemade boost controller by putting a T fitting in the vac hose to the wastegate and attaching an air pressure control valve from an aquarium store (39 cents). originally, the boost gauge read around 5. Now under acceleration it will run quickly up to ten, then level off at 8. Does anyone who knows better than me (that would be most of you) know about problems this could cause or things I should watch out for? I am getting a check engine light, but the code says cam timing sensor and that was coming on intermittently prior to the modification. Thanks

george,
as you probably know, the GLT's are light press. turbo models. Basically to get more power out of it safely you need to get a tuned ecu. You wanna be careful about turning the boost up on the GLT's cuz they dont have the heavier internals like the " true turbo " cars do. Id say youll be safe where the setting is, but, be easy with it til you can get a tune and then you can play with it a lil more...

I wouldn't go over ten pounds of boost on it. I have a 850 GLT and right after I put my boost controller on I over boosted and blow my head gasket and had to replace 5 valves. But since then I've been pushing about ten pounds and it has been running great ever since.

When I had it set to 10 I began getting a 0234 "over boost" code. I set it lower - to 8, It stopped throwing codes and is still a lot quicker for now.
