== HID+ Volvo 850 == How To

Post by alexou79 »

Hi Guys,
After hours of search, I'd like to know how to install HID on my 850 ... but no clear answer so far ...
I understood 2 ways so far :
1 I get a real HID conversion Kit and I should be able to install it quickly, but I know that reflector housing + HID are forbidden here in Australia, so the next inspection will go wrong for sure...

2 I push the DIY aspect of myself and I change the housing into clear and I get projectors and HID bulbs. but where do I get the parts ?

So what have you done on your car ? What would you recommend ?
I 'll be more than hqppy to Do It Myself, but if anybody has good advices, I am a greate listener ...

Thanks for your help lads ...

Love your work

Many people that do HID's have done projector retrofits into the OEM headlight. There are several write-ups on it on VS, but it appears to be down at the moment (probably b/c of the hurricane, I think?). Ironic this thread comes up though, as I have a set of 6000k HID's on order. I have the jewel headlights and I'm going to pull the reflector off the low beam, and just run the HID's like that. It's probably against the law, but so are lots of other things on my car (cone filter, exhaust too loud, clear corners, high flow cat). I have a mechanic friend of mine "inspect" the car  .

Anyways, you can buy projector headlights on eBay for dirt cheap and just take the projector part out of it and retrofit it into the OEM housing if you want to go the legal route. I'll post the links to those write-ups as soon as the servers come back to life over at VS.

The bulb socket will not take much of a wattage increase similar to the wiring harness which will become brittle due to the higher wattage.

Txs Sean for your answers ...
Can you tell me where you got your jewel headlights ?
I found so far 2 websites for 850 jewel headlights : http://www.samsteffansson.se/samindex.html
and http://www.vptuning.com/parts/catalog/p ... ucts_id=84

I guess I will just put an hid kit for the lower beam, but what can I do if it s too bright ? I thought of taping the bulb ...

Seems more tricker than I want !!

Thanks for your help again
