2001 S80 Engine Surges

Post by missdeb »

What causes my S80 to have power surges while idling? It is worse with the fan blowing.

A common problem is the ETM module, although typically you'd have more symptoms than that. Check out Don's ETM room on this site.

Thanks for your help but the dealer claims that they have already cleaned the ETM. Now, what to do next?!

Cleaning doesn't always fix it. Many times it has to be replaced. The contact strips on the inside wear out.

It's at the dealer today to look at this AGAIN! And also to replace the fuel pump from a recall letter that I received.
We'll see what happens with the ETM. There is a 10 year or 50,000 mile warranty on this and it will be 10 years in
July so I hope they will replace it.
Thanks again for your help.
