Tuning stage 855 T5

What are the different Tuning Stages for 850 T5 correct if I've missed anything

Stage 0 is a basic service? [also called Oil Service]
Stage 1 Remap

What is a stage 2 and then stage 3? When do the following come into things : Polished Ported Head, Forged Pistons and Rods, Larger Turbo Charger, Larger Throttle Bodies, Bigger Intercoolers, more extreme mapping [if possible]

What are the benefits of Forged Pistons and Con Rods? I understand lightened and balanced.

You do not have to build up the internals until you go above stage 3 ( custom map).

The stronger internals, rods, pistons, etc are to with stand the force/energy the car will be making. The piston rod and crank have to take the downward force of the new uprated power and as such are of greater strength. The limits of a 2.3 are in the 400 to 500hp range and to be honest the trans and shafts may suffer long before a 2.3 lets go.

But if you want massive low end toque ( car becomes almost undrivable - but really fun for about 3 days) you will need to build up the internals. IPD has videos and instructions on their site. www.ipdusa.com

Thanks for the quick reply. No I don't want to go 400 - 500bhp the Auto box supposedly suffers around 300 ish more torque than BHP.

A thorough stage zero including sensors and all fluids followed by a stage 3 will place non-removable smile on your face. The car is an absolute beast at that level. It will be costly as you may be replacing, turbo and exhaust along with tune, tcv etc.

The car has to be in top shape for stage 3 any marignal transmission or shafts will break. I also install a nice large auto trans cooler at stage one or higher. I suggest it at stage zero if the owner tows. get one with a control block that will allow flow to the cooler at temps above 180f. The trans fluid really needs to be in the 170f to 200f temp range to work correctly.

I use Derale www.derale.com as their parts seem to last for generations. A nice fan behind or in front of the cooler is mounted with the temp sensor on the control block as when you get to a resort town you are usually crawling in stop and go traffic with no air flow.

I also place a juction of the trans hoses in a convienient spot. This way I can do flushes very quickly. I just take off the clamp on the return line and perfrom a non machine powered flush. Makes it a nice 10 minute job.

As a last tip be cautious of hose clamps. Upgrade from worm gear clamps to band clamps or lined clamps. You want this junction to last the life of the vehicle so a good clamp is critical.

I've got a transmission cooler on order at present. I cannot find any details of the tuning stages on IPDs site except for what a stage one is [what we call here in the UK A basic service] I do like the Exhaust systems doubt they'd export to the UK seems postage costs have gone skywards over the past year. Currently my engine is not in good enough shape to take anything but a remap at maximum but that will be addressed once I can get a spare engine to rebuild with new parts
