Hi Everyone, I am a newbie!!
I have been trying to research the web for a Volvo Specialities in Bergen County (New Jersey), I have been driving a 1993 Volvo (only 72,000.00 miles on it) since my father passed (10 yrs ago) and I have (believe it or not) never had anyone but the DEALER work on my car...Needless, to say it's costing me a fortune!! I have been having an issue (several actually) with the car for about 3 weeks. It started when I could not get the power windows down (we just changed fuses and they are still not working) and now the new thing is that the car sometimes will not start after parking it (the battery is fairly new). After jumping the car it will run. Today the check engine light came on (which this better not be a problem since the dealer said I need engine work just a little over a year ago that cost #2,100.00)...I swear the dealer is doing something everytime to this beautiful car because everytime I leave it's a new problem!! I need to find someone else...can anyone help??!! Thanks!!

since you are new to volvos, a good place to start is go to your local librairy and check out a service manual, such as chiltons or hayes.
tyhe check engine light indicates a problem with a sensor. volvo comes with its own onboard diagnostic. on your car this can be found under the hood on the drivers side corner between wheel and dash. here is a platic box @ 1-2 inches square. remove the top and you will see 6 sockets. only #2 and #6 will be used. remove small lead from cap and insert into #2. on box is a small button and red light. turn key on but not ass far as start. back under hood hold down button for 2 seconds and release. a code numder will flash for the 3 numbers of code. ex. light flashes 3 times than 2 times then 2 times. in the manual in emmissions section there will be a list of code number followed by problem followed name of part which would cause problem.
i would be good to read emmision section to become fimiliar with vehicle.
p.s. lambda sond refers to the oxygen sensor attached tto the exhaust.
good luck

I've recently had a string of bad Volvo experiences in and around Bergen County, NJ. My advice, if you love your Volvo, is to move, or consider going to Connecticut or upstate New York for service. Bergen and surrounding areas seem to be rotten to the core, for Volvo service.
