Re: 98 V70 XC died on the road, no start.
Havent had a chance to measure volts from the ECU yet but ive been reading other CMP problem post. I dont think its possible to install it backwards since the cord is very short and the screws wouldnt line up if i rotated it, could it be a problem with the camshaft seal? Or possibly my replacement CMPS is bad?

I doubt it's the seal unless you've got oil splurging out of it; it is entirely possible that it could be a bad sensor. I would check the wiring first, and if that checks out then call Eeuroparts and see if they can get you a new one in the mail while you're sending your other back.

Hmmm.. Pins 1 to 3 check out, but pins 1 to 2 are showing battery voltage as well?? Does this imply a short somewhere?
That ECU chart you provided seems to say the signal can be 5v or Bat v. Kind of confusing.
Should the ignition be on when testing these? These were taken with the key in pos II.
Also getting a little resistance from pin 1 to ground but I am using a very precise Fluke Multimeter, bound to be a little resistance I'd think.

Well I believe all the wiring checks out, but I noticed the camshaft doesnt rotate when attempting to start.
The metal tab that sticks out into the CMP sensor is stopped right next to the sensor, could this be causing a false code?
Broken timing belt? Say it aint so!

Its Confirmed. Broken timing belt. I cried a little. Thanks for the help anyways guys. Just wish it didn't throw that false code leading me on this wild goose chase only to find out its likely totaled.
Ive got allot of thinking and budgeting to do.

Oh. Well then...
Take off the oil cap and turn over the engine. Or just pull off the timing cover. The little thingy inside should be spinning. If it's still not, your belt is broken.
If the engine was running at the time, chances are you have a couple of bent valves. You won't know until you get a new belt on, and then try to spin the camshaft by hand - do NOT try cranking it. If it locks up, you'll have to pull the head and see the damage for yourself

Not really sure how old the belt was, I bought the car around 154K, I think i saw a sticker stating that it was changed at 80k, I should have changed it right away. Its my own damn fault. It was on my laundry list of things to do, just kept putting it off.
Ive been reading up tutorials and stuff and im a tad confused.
Is the belt itself the same for manual and automatic tensioning systems?
Im not near the car now so I cant tell which I have, or check my engine serial number.
Can I get the serial number from my V.I.N.?

Apparently they're interchangeable. Here's a recent thread about it:
