drivers window only going up?

Post by markinstoke »

Hello all,
I have recentley purchased an 06' c70 after having a BMW850 for ten years, I have found on several occasions that when i try to lower the drivers window it won't! I can however lower it using the button which lowers all the windows at the same time, but not on the single designated switch. Just to confuse matters a little more once i do get my window down the button will only raise the window no matter which direction the button is pressed, this problem is intermittent.

Any ideas

Thanks guys

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

Possibly dirty or worn contacts in the switch. Some Volvo switches can be taken apart, very carefully as there are lots of small parts and a spring inside.

To find a good, used part easily try Parts Gateway. They pass your requirements to several dealers of new and used parts who will contact you with availability and price. The service is first class.

It could be the switch has gone bad. Also sounds like it might just need a software download to re-initialize the module. That might wake it back up. I'd give that a try or at least get it diagnosed, the switch is not cheap.

Pull off the battery cable (make sure you've got your radio code if your model has one), push on the brake pedal or something to drain the charge, and then reconnect it. Sometimes with these, resetting the entire computer will make things work again that haven't worked in some time.

Of course, there's always the possibility of the switch too

I have since being playing with the switch, and quickly moving it backwards and forwards and it seemed to have sorted it for a short time (day or two), then I have to wiggle it again for it to work....seems like it's the switch and I will try to dismantle it this weekend and see If I can clean it.

Thanks for your help and any more advice would be very welcome
