Front end vibration

I checked the wheel the morning. I have no play when my hands are at 6 and 12, however, I have about a 1/4 inch or so of play when my hands are at 3 and 9. Ordered both inner and outer tie rods today and will replace on Friday. I will let everyone know if it fixes the problem. Thanks again.

Thanks. I changed out the inner and outer tie rod on the passenger's side and it did the trick. My inner tie rod had quite a bit of play in in and was obviously shot. I brought the car in for an alignment today and had to replace the driver's side tire only after 20K miles. I am sure that it is from the front end problem. Car is now running great, thanks for all the help. As a tip it helped me to change out the tie rod by turning the tire as far to the right as possible so as to expose more of the tie rod. My boot was torn on the end and it was very wet inside. I am hoping that it is wet from running over water and not from a leaky seal but we shall see. Thanks again, Dave.

Wait... was it a CV boot or the rack boot that was torn and wet? If its the rack boot you need to find out if that wetness is water or power steering fluid.

It seemed like water, but I have had to add fluid to my power steering, so I don't really know. The inner tie rod was obviously wet and had been for some time.

Ok, just be sure that the wetness is water and not power steering fluid. If it is atf, then your going to have to replace the rack. If its just water, make sure your repair the boot and check your power steering fluid res clamps to see if they are leaking. If they, are simply remove the factory clamps and replace them with some nice, tight worm clamps. ATF does not evaporate, so that fluid you are adding has to be going somewhere, and it is usually just a simple reserviour clamp leak.

Lee, I would greatly appreciate your input. I just replaced both half axles on my 1998 V70 and I am experiencing some vibration when accelerating as well. The rubber seal of the passenger side tie rod is split (grease all over). I will be replacing it tomorrow. If the vibration is not gone, how do I inspect the motor mounts to verify if they are ok?
