I'm in the early stages of buying an '02 V70 or XC70, and I'm thinking it would be a good idea to ask the same questions of every seller. Here's my list, and feel free to add yours:

how many owners?
why are you selling?
how many keys for it?
anything wrong with it?
all 4 tires same brand/size?
any major repairs done?

How old are the front wheel control arms (correct part name?/struts)?
How often do you notice a heavy gasoline odor inside the cab?
