855 T-5 Ran out of fuel now pump is grinding
My T-5 ran out of fuel today now the pump is making a nasty grumbling noise so loudly can feel the vibration inside the car . How empty does that mean the tank is, is it possible to empty the tank till the bottom feed of the pump I mean ? Guess I'll need a new fuel filter now as all the gunge from the tank bottom will have been sucked up.

I think you fuel pump became bad, due the gasoline cools and lubricates the internal parts, when it became dry it damage if you still traying to start without fuel.
You can test the fuel pressure at the intake manifold, or take it out of the tank and replace it.

Hope not though it might explain the hard starting lately. Will see what happens when I put petrol back inclaymore850 wrote:I think you fuel pump became bad, due the gasoline cools and lubricates the internal parts, when it became dry it damage if you still traying to start without fuel.

Fill it up and see what it sounds like. If the sounds don't go away, time for a new pump!
You can buy just the insert and put it into the existing housing and save yourself about $100.

Sounds ok today ran lumpy at first then smoothed off. Out of interest do you notice any benefit from your K&N Air filter ? I'm considering an uprated filter but unsure if the claims are real or just hypejablackburn wrote:Fill it up and see what it sounds like. If the sounds don't go away, time for a new pump!

I could tell a small difference, but nothing huge. My old one was pretty clogged up with leaves and junk, so it may have just been happier to have a clean filter. I think it breathes a bit easier with the K&N when the turbo starts pulling air through. I used one in my old car, and could tell a noticeable difference in that engine.
