1997 S90/960 -all of a sudden my engine check light came on along with the winter arrow on dash and the winter driving mode light on transmission started flashing. I had to drive home about 100 miles. When I got home and recranked engine the flashing lights stopped but engine light stayed on. What's going on? Also will it hurt to drive car with all lights going or what?
This morning cranked car and only engine light still on.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
The flashing lights indicate a that a fault code has been set by the transmission. Certain transmission codes also put on the Check Engine Light (CEL). If the code is for an intermittent fault the flashing lights will stop flashing after the ignition is switched off and on a certain number of times. This could be up to five times depending on the code. The CEL will stay on if it has been activated by the transmission.
You need to have the transmission codes read to see if there is a problem that needs to be rectified. Occasionally the transmission will set a code which, when erased, won't come back.
If the box is changing gears without any apparent effort, eg it isn't missing some gears out, it is safe to drive it but I would advise the codes be read ASAP to avoid further complications.
Bill.
