Which XC70 Model Year Is Best?

Post by hooger158 »

I'm finally in the market for my next Volvo, but need some advice. I'm looking at several used XC70s and am having a very hard time figuring out the difference between the model years. Especially with regard to the ETM. I know the 2001 has the old/bad ETM, but can't confirm that the 2002 XC70 doesn't. The 2003 gets a new engine (is it much better?) but which ETM does it have? Any other differences of note between 2001-2007 besides the cosmetic ones? Thanks.

2003 and later have a slightly bigger bore, no "smart" ETM module to fail (its controlled solely by the ECU itself), and an electrical AWD system. All-around, a better car. That would be my choice.
