Which torque wrench?

Post by AlanS »

I have to exchange a torque wrench at Sears. They have two offered in my 'price range'. One has the torque range from 25- 250, the other 5-80 ft. lbs. Which one would be most useful. I am not going to rebuild engines, but will do water pump, timing belts, lug nuts, suspension, etc. The 25-250 handle is VERY long, seems almost too long to get into spots.

The 25-250 ft/lb would be the most useful. Most bolts/nuts on an 850 are in the range of 50-150NM llug nuts are 110-135NM no sure what that is in lbft but its above 80. Its always best to buy the very best you can afford anything below 25 is poinltess to torque up unless its very precision. At a guess the 5-80 is 3/8 inch and the other is 1/2 inch if its above 1/2 don't touch it.
