Any special notes for P2 axle bolts?

Post by bocephus »

Looking through Alldatadiy and similar sources, it's really difficult to figure out the proper procedure for tightening axle bolts on 01+ P2 cars (besides torque value - 120 nm + 60 degrees). They have all the instructions for earlier 850s just jumbled in there, such that I can't figure out if the axle bolt needs to be greased or tapped (like the earlier models). Even searching through this forum, it seems like the answers are murky or contradictory. So I ask: When putting in a new axle bolt, is there anything I should be doing to the bolt, besides torquing it to the correct value?

Thanks!

I see from VADIs it says 35Nm +90 deg. Use new bolts. This is for the front. 50Nm rear not angle and bolts can be reused. Hope this helps.

Thanks JST; weird that VADIS is reporting such different torque values compared to Alldatadiy. Sorry to nag, but does VADIS say whether the bolts should be greased, or have loctite applied, etc.? The reason I ask is because on the '01 V70 I recently purchased, the passenger side bolt was greased, while the driver side bolt was not....confusing.

It does not say to grease the bolts. If there is locktite required it sounds like it would be on the bolt when new. I would not add anything to the bolt and tighten it to 35Nm +90 deg.

+1

I just replaced my axle bolts because of axle ping. The new bolts come with locktite on them.
