nice video! however, i don't know if i would do that with flip flops on!
1994 850 na green 187k on body, 275k on motor(backwards?), unrestricted airbox, 960 TB, persus wheels, Lowered, IPD poly upper and trans mounts.

When I was seperating the transmission from the engine "both out of vehicle" I set them both on the concrete floor, being stabilized by the chain falls that were still attached. THen I just pulled them apart, "bolts out of course" and set the transmiision on the floor.
Lee - Good luck with changing your clutch! Let us know how you make out, is this your first time with that job? Hopefully everything goes well, interested in how that removal method works for you.

I was thinking of doing it that way as well. Makes sense. Good to know it can be done, I'll make sure to include that in the writeup as well, giving people options. How was it to put it back together? When I did a big-ish write up, I think it turned out to be a good choice to put it on Google Sites, for a number of reasons (it automatically shrinks pictures to manageable size, giving you full-size on a click, for instance), but particularly because it makes it easy to edit after the fact. I've made a few updates since I wrote it---small so far, but if I need to put in a warning or great tip from someone else later, I can. Then you post a link to it and you still have a thread with comments and so on.
Someone here, I think, said recently that the ideal thing would be a wikipedia-style repair database, so that instead of searching all over the place for different write-ups, there would be a central site, and people would add new ones only if needed, refining or adding their two cents to the existing one otherwise. I don't know how that would work in practice, but it sounds like a good idea.

For anyone interested, there is a silver '99 V70 with the rare manual tranny in the Chesterfield Auto Parts junkyard. This is located about ten miles south of Richmond Virginia. Someone has taken the grey shift knob and boot off but all the mechanical components are still there. You can google their location. It is a you-pull-it type place and they let you use portable engine lifts, wheelbarrows. You just bring the tools. I was there yesterday and took the aux. cooling fan/motor off this exact car for my '99 V70. It costs a dollar to get in and the parts are so cheap. The fan/motor I picked up for $20 sells for $289 new on IPD or FCP and $343 from my local dealer. If I was a mechanically inclined as some of you sound, I'd be taking the tranny for myself because I bought a new '00 V70 with a manual trans while stationed in Germany. It was a joy to drive.
