Engine fan/fans

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Engine fan/fans

Post by dtropnevad05 »

OK guys what controls the fan/fans on a 2002 S-80 2.9 Auto. My daughter called me saying her car was running without the keys in it. I asked if it sounded like a fan running and she said “yes Dad the motor is running!” girls  .
Anyway this has happened before and it does sound like the engine is running and when this happens you can start the car then turn it back off then the fan/fans turn off.

What I need to know is what controls the fans, is there a separate temperature sensor for the fans or is it controlled by the engine coolant sensor and where do I find it. As always thanks for the information.

The fan will go on once the temps reaches a predetermined temperature. In my S80 it's 220F. When I turn off the engine after a trip, the fans will kick on. But it will turn off eventually.
When the car has been turned off, the interior blower will come on about 20-30 minutes later

The blower motor will run by itself to remove condensation from the air conditioning evaporator.
