AC not working 1990 240 DL

Post by Amit »

I took my 1990 240 DL to a mechanic for AC recharge, he told that the AC has been converted to 134 from r-12 (I am not much aware of the history of the CAR and I do not any past repair records with me).

The mechanic told that there was no freon and he has added 1 pound of freon but still the compressor does not start. He checked all the fuses and wiring everthing seems ok according to him. If he tries to give the power directly then the compressor kicks off. He couldn't make it run, finally he gae up and asked me get in touch with volvo dealer.

Going to a dealer can be expensive affair, before going there I wanted to check if anybody has faced similar problem.

Is there is anything which I should ask my mechanic to look for?

Thanks,
Amit

Sorry, I dont have a solution for this issue...having a similar issue myself in my 1990 240DL. Just replaced my A/C compressor tonight, old one locked up so tight I had to cut the belt to get it to run so I could drive home. The new compressor's clutch is not getting any power when I turn on the A/C. Anyway....ran out of light and patients, going to resume the trouble shooting in the morning.

Good Luck with your A/C issues,

Dave

I had a similar problem. Compressor wouldn't come on. Went to a local A/C guy and he got the compressor to run a couple of times by grounding out the compressor to the engine. He ran a new ground wire to the compresor, charged the unit and all is well. The ground wire was broken but we couldn't tell where. Before doing this we also tried a new A/C relay and the dashboard control module.
