Timken/ Moog camshaft seals s80
I just bought my camshaft seals and they seem to be too small. On my intake cam, the variable valve timing unit can't go into the inner part of the seal and it doesn't seal at the housing; on my exhaust cam, they don't seal at the housing of the engine, although it hugs the camshaft fine. I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with this and if they did, what was the solution? I went to Advanced Auto Parts, Autozone, and O'Riley and they all have the same seal, but I don't think it's the right one. If anyone wants pictures to see what I'm talking about, let me know. BTW, it's a 1999 S80, non-turbo, 2.9L.

I had the same problem on my volvo 850. I found out that there are two sets, and they are different sizes. The smaller ones go on the side with the timing belt, the larger ones, on the side behind the rotor cap, and cam shaft position sensor. My guess is you are trying to replace the larger ones, so you need to tell them, you want the ones for the back of the engine. I know, it is sideways, but that is how it is addressed. I went to BAP-GEON to get the right parts, or sometimes the dealer.

Thanks for the reply. I went to Autozone and tried to match up the camshaft seals myself and none matched, so I ended up going to another guy. The store's name is Foreign Auto Parts of Marietta. If you live in the Atlanta region and don't wanna pay an arm and a leg, check this guy out. He will get whatever you need the same day or very next morning (just try to call him before 4). You were right about the camshaft seals being two different sizes. Thanks again!
Edit: All Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, and O'Riley Auto have the same camshaft seals. you're better off getting them from the guy mentioned above or online.
