Hi from France :)

Post by JelT5-R »

Hi everyone,

Long term Volvo owner from Europe. I'm an ex-pat Brit living in France.

On my second Volvo now, started out with a 1998 V70T5 auto and just recently bought an 855 T5-R manual in Olive Green with only 95K miles. You can see the old V70 (now sold)in action on youtube www.youtube.com/JelsT5. Best 1/4 was 14.6 @ 96mph. Had the following mods, RICA 304 ECU, BSR Optiflow airfilter, JT 3" catback zorst, reverse Intercooler pipes, MBC, strut brace and EBC grooved discs with Yellowstuff pads, poly top mount. I was running about 1.2-3 bar boost. A pretty quick car, but just not in the same league as the T5-R! The manual trans just brings these cars to life. Also the T5-R is a completely different animal to drive- brilliant car!

My T5-R is stock at the moment, but I have a RICA 304 ECU on the way along with a strut brace and poly top mount.
Plans are to fit a 18T 0r 19T, full zorst with race cat, green injectors, RIP and get a custom map. Also gonna upgrade the 280mm brakes to 302mm and fit Koni FSDs all round. This should all happen over the next few months

Pics of the T5-R are here: s912.photobucket.com/albums/ac327/JelsT5/T5-R/

I'm also on a couple of other forums, VPCUK.org and the Dutch forum NordicTurbo.nl

Cheers for now

Jerry

Welcome, Jerry. Nice plans, please post back with more. I don't have the money for speed mods; I need to live vicariously through owners lle you.

Have you tried just a MBC (not a bleed valve) and boost gauge Matt? Really cheap way to get some good power!

Jerry, thanks for the reminder about MBC's. I do plan to do that. They are very inexpensive.

I owe some long-overdue kindness to my 850, but after that I'll add an MBC and gauge.

I got mine from a company in the UK called R-spec, £39 including gauge. After some careful adjustment I was running 1.1bar boost, no bendy rods and bucketloads of grunt Matt :)
I also posted about a company in the UK doing a really good price on RICA'd ECUs on the chip thread- might be worth checking out

I actually emailed them the other day (ECU) -- they do work with American customers, and the price is the same for us in the States. Should be around $250. But the email response didn't detail shipping or duty costs. If those are reasonable, it's something I'll look closely at.

Same £100 ($190ish) deposit policy applies.
