DW (Darrel Waltrip Dealership) ... A lot of folks here have purchased parts & gotten advice from Don & Jaimie there.
The majority of the folks on this forum realized this was a way cool thing! We were able to obtain parts at a reasonable price! Parts not even available from other dealerships.
Example: I wanted a Volvo 960, 35mm, throttle plate, the two mounting screws & a new gasket. Called my local steelership, "Oh no Mr. Hoover, the only way to obtain that is to buy the WHOLE throttle body." ... At $245.00 bucks! "WHAT? ... Steelership says, "They only sell it as a unit" ... ... ... Uh-huh ... Well, those of us who actually wrench know about this stuff cause we have dealt with it for years!
Before I start, I am a newby here too. Maybe the difference is I wrench & therefore appreciate the sacrafice in time & effort the regular posters here make. They slow down their own work to share how it is done with the rest of us. I think that is extraordinary!!!!
Beginning of rant:
I see posts on this forum demanding, DEMANDING help & many times after this Jerkoff receives a concise answer he or she expects the answering poster to do the homework too. "But what about this & what about that" ... LOOK in the repair data base!!! Like you were told to do when you joined the forum ... Well, I might be a bit harsh there. A lot of these folks are not wrenches & are confused. It's just that with some effort on their part their question would be answered. I admit, it is an effort but what about the other folks, who are not paid anything? What about their time & effort to answer? If you really don't know what to ask (& it is obvious when those posters don't) than I have no problem. When some ass is asking about a technichal question that I know has been answered three times over in the data base it makes me unhappy! These folks are taking advantage AND I will bet after the answer is given we will never hear from this person again! They will never come back to the thread & thank those who helped them fix their problem or tell them it actually WAS fixed. ...Why should they? THEY are done. ... The sense of entitlement some folks have astounds me! Truly does.
Sooo! My whole point of this post is to say: "This is a sad day!" April, 30, 2010 ... Darrel Waltrip (Don & Jaimie) quit the internet business! It WAS Don & Jaimie BTW. They did it, with approval but strictly on their own! They didn't get paid extra for helping us.
I had a long talk with one of their accociates @ DW. He was polite, professional & discrete. Quote: "Well, a lot of the customers were pretty demanding. It just got to be really hard to help everyone in the manner we are used to satisfying our customers" ...
Translation? : "People were total jerks & this was a HUGE headache!!! If we couldn't get it to them for half the price, the next day, they were pissed & abusive!"
I have dealt with Don & know him to be upfront, honest, informative & accomodating. Jaimie & Don were trying to do us all a good deed but as the quote goes "No good deed goes unpunished!" ... So they said "We are done!" ... Way to be Guys! You should have done it sooner. It's just a shame you were not recognized by the majority for what you provided & what you did. Instead it was just a few of us who did so & (Speaking for myself) don't believe any of us blames you for folding up your tents & getting the horses to lower ground!
Truth is, I'm not really through here but this has gone on long enough for now.

Hoov,

I agree 100% of what you said, so no argument here...:)

Back to DW Volvo, they never have an online ordering site, I had to order by phone, which is fine.
Don and Jamie kicked butt!!! These guys are great!

So for DW Volvo, we cannot even order by phone any more?

On the other hand, if you Google "trademotion Volvo", you will see alot of Volvo dealerships selling parts online through web ordering.

PS: I agree that people are demanding when it comes to their cars, people can be rude, expect alot from others then run away. I believe any forum is a "give-and take" place.

Let me know if you guys have any ideas on decreasing redundant questions.

Too bad about DW. I never ordered from them, but I never read even one complaint about them.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

You are absolutely correct and I apologize for my ignorance and inability to follow instructions. I posted a redundant question without looking in the repair data base like I was told to do and located the information I needed there. Thank you for your understanding.

Lee,
Absolutely! & a "Sarcasm" font would be cool too!

CN90,
You are right. A forum website is always give & take. This one does better than most but I was extemely P.O'd when I wrote this. I over reacted some as such but the fact is, now that I look at it with a cooler head, I will stand by most of what I wrote.
Didn't mean to lean so heavily on folks who really are new to auto repair. They were not my target but it could be construed as such.
As I understand it, DW is no longer interested in doing anything involving shipping.
"Trademotion Volvo" ... COOL! ... Thanks

Matt,
I don't have a clue how to stop redundant posts! You have done the best you can with your "read me first" but what about the poor person who is in crisis & needs their car back ASAP because their job is dependant upon it? It's reasonable to expect people to read the "destructions" but probably not so to expect them to do so when they are desperate.
My beef is with those butwads that actually KNOW what they are doing but take the shortcut of simply relying on the generousity of the moderators & more knowledgeable members. There is nothing you are ever going to be able to do to stop self centered jerks from continuing to be self centered jerks. ... You do a great Job here Matt! This is a very civilized site 95% of the time with the majority of folks being pretty damn cool. Fact is I have seen more than one moderator insulted to the point I figure I would be swinging & yet the response is always civil, polite & accurate!! Bravo! I am livid about this but the example set is the example I will strive to follow.

Scottfishel !!,
YOU are not even close to the folks that I'm refering too! LAWD! I'm really sorry if I made you feel that way but the very fact you do & your post as well, totally eliminates you from the guilty crew. ... The last thing I want is to discourage ANYBODY from participating here. Participation is what makes this place work.
I was moaning about those folks who just want to USE without any care as to how it might affect others. We all lost a valuable asset because of "users & abusers". Mostly, it truly made me angry when I found out the reason they are stopping is that "people" were abusive. Don & Jaimie did not deserve that sort of treatment.
I can't believe you would ever do that! You are obviously paying attention. Please forgive me for making you feel bad.

There is nothing you are ever going to be able to do to stop self centered jerks from continuing to be self centered jerks.
There are people like that everywhere, you've just got to look out for yourself first. I TA for classes at Virginia Tech with people like this, who haven't gone to class all semester and flock to me whining about how they need to catch up to pass their exams coming up next week. I'm more than willing to help people who just need help understanding something, or who missed a few days of lecture, but they can't just expect me to re-teach them the entire class they missed all semester because they had more "important" things to do.

The "sorry I can't help you" response they get may make me look like an arrogant jerk, but the truth is if anyone comes to me with a knowledgeable, informed question, I am more than happy to help them to the best of my ability (and the same goes for anyone here).

For any new posters/"noobs", we don't mind at all if you come through asking a question even if it's already been answered, and the more details you can provide us and troubleshooting you've done with, the better. Simply putting "car won't start" and expecting a response is not helpful to anyone. But by all means, try to do your research first...this site has a great search function compared to any other forum (hats off to Matt for this!), and is how I dig up most things I haven't personally dealt with myself.

Hoov,
Thank you for your reply. What you stated to Matt about desperation is exactly the feeling I had at midnight last night. Once again, I appreciate your response and I do appreciate this website and all those who participate. Thanks again.
