Any help with removing rear shock on S40???

Post by AlanS »

2001 S-40. Well, I am trying to do the rear spring via DIY... Not having a book, I am winging it. Major hurtle, can't get the 18mm nut off the bolt that holds the bottom of the strut. I am sure if I had an air wrench, it would fly off. Can't budge it. Plus, I really don't know what to detach to remove the assembly... I undid the top two bolts in the trunk... but the swing arm just hangs there...I thought it would drop so that I didn't have to take off the bottom bolt, just swing the assembly out, compress the spring and reverse. Any help?

I attached the VADIS for you.

I always use a pipe over the ratchet handle (cheater bar) or a breaker bar for extra leverage on a nut I can't release by hand force.
