speedometer/fuel tank indicators -> Please Help

Post by loai »

This is my second posting so I would appreciate any suggestions.
I just bought a used 93 volvo 850 GLT. I had a new engine installed and the car runs great. However, the speedometer, Fuel tank indicator and termperature indicator are all not working (dont move at all from low position). The only idicator that works is the rpm indicator (All digital indicators are working fine). Do you know what is causing this and how to fix it ?
Thanks for your reply.

I am not sure if it is the same thing but my 1993 850 just started to flash the low fuel and service lights and all my gauges went down - I replaced the electric portion of the ignition switch but that did not help - now it won't even start. I have a post telling about that but have received no responses. I guess the next step is to remove the instrument cluster. Good luck.

Today, I took the instrument box completely out (i.e I opened the dash, disconnected all the wires and took it out). Since the rpm gauge was working fine, I decided to swap one of the non-working (I dont know what they are called, but may be mini-transformers, which is what moves the gauge) with
the working rpm one. The rpm gauge still worked fine which leads me to believe that no voltage is reaching any of the speedometer or Fuel gauges.
I am not sure if there are hidden fuses for the dash board somewhere (do you know if any ?).
I think this might save you the hassle of opening the dash. I think the problem is somewhere else.

i took mine to a old german mechanic and although I have not got it back yet he said over the phone it was a power regulator (?) I will pick it up on friday and will ask him then.
