Brake Pedal Play

Post by dicktrask »

My brake pedal in my 2001 Volvo Cross Country (V70 XC) has a lot of play in it. It ssems that I have to push the pedal down a long ways before the brakes engage. I have had the car at the garage and they tell me that there is nothing wrong with the brakes. Anyony care to comment on this subject?

Thanks

Usually that would indicate that the brakes need to be bled or the master cylider is leaking by. Have you had any recent work done to any part of the braking system?

I have not had any work on the brakes recently. Th ecar only has 30K milage on it. My mechanic tells me the brakes are very good and need no repair. My gut feeling is that there is something wrong but I have never owned a Volvo before.

I'm not familiar with the V70 XC brakes, but I had the same issue with my S70, fixed that by installing steel braided brake lines, and it worked like a charm. My car has way less play in the brakes, nice solid feel! Might be worth checking out.
