Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

I just disassembled the blower on my 1999 S80 and found a penny in the base of the housing. The blower was making a squeaking noise. The shaft of the motor was bearing on the penny and had worn quite a hole into it. Don't know why the penny was there (Bought the car used. The blower housing had been opened before.) and am trying to find an answer. Something similar to this could be your problem.

I too have a 99 S80T6. Last year I had to clean and oil the fan motor shaft to quiet it down. Been fine since.

Could you possibly blow a bit of compressed air into it? I did this with the little fan that is used to control the climate control. Dust/lint had just accumulated inside it and stop it from rotating. It was giving errors on my PPC scanner. Perhaps just a lot of lint/dust on your fan blades. Not sure how far inside the dash the fan is locate i.e. access to clean by blowing with compressed air
