New starter, new alternator, no start

Post by sleepingwillow »

In February I purchased a 2001 v70xc. Several times within the first month this car left me stranded. The car wouldn't turn over and after repeated tries the immobilizer would come on. After reading several posts on this site I tried the unlocking/locking key trick and thought the problem had been solved.

Ha! Out of the blue, the car wouldn't start. The key trick didn't work and the car was eventually towed to the dealer. Apparently, the starter had seized. $700 later I had a new starter. Once again, I thought my car problem was solved. Ha!!

Not even a week later, my unreliable hunk of metal failed me. This time I could hear a clicking sound but there was no power. The car was jump started several times over the next few days before I took it to the dealer and had them check their work. Of course, I was told that there were no problems.
I went to another shop and had the electrical system checked and was told that I needed a new altenator. $600 later I really thought that this was the end of my car problems.
The very next day, the car would not start again. It makes the clicking sound when I try to start it but it won't turn over.

I still think that the problem is with the starter. My car never did this before I had the starter replaced.

I am frustrated to say the least. Please respond with any ideas.

$700 for starter? and still no start ? check with dealer to see they put brand new oem starter in the car, your problem might be the starter even with the new and oem part. As far as I know if battery is in good condition and wires are good and clicking sound comes from starter no Q. the starter is bad.

Usually the clicking with no start means bad battery. Having a bad battery on these cars wreaks havoc on many things. Try borrowing a good battery or have yours tested.

I did take the car back to the dealer to have them check the starter but of course, they said it was fine. I was told that my battery was operating at about 50% when the new alternator was put in but in an effort to save some money I opted to wait.

Thanks for the replies.
