2000 S80 T6 ETM replacement question

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80 T6 ETM replacement question

Post by Briandroy »

The dealer told me I needed to replace my ETM and have a software update. They told me the car will not operate if I replace the ETM with out updating the software. Does anyone know if I can skip the $400 software update?

I would say they have you by the veritable bXXXs and that you will have to pay for the software upgrade.
As an aside, I visited long lost relatives in Sweden in 2004 one of whom was a university professor who consulted for Volvo. He told me at that time that Volvo was taking the philosophical attitude that the car was just going to be a piece of hardware into which would be mounted computers and software. Not the right approach in my 'simple is better' experience but there you go. And they sure 'get you' when 'software needs to be upgraded'....
