PS Belt - HELP!!

1989 240 DL Sedan. Fan Belt recently exploded. Replaced that with no trouble -- while looking at the belts noticed the PS Belt was twisted and cracked so attempted to replace that as well. BUT -- I am having difficulting moving all of the components so as to allow enough slack between pulleys to slip the new belt on. The PS Pump moved out oif the way w/no trouble. The problem component seems to be the AC compressor... it will slide, but only part of the way. We monkeyed arround w/it so much that all of the tension sliders are now completely disassembled (as far as I can tell).... and yet the darn thing still won't move. Any ideas? Thanks.
