2001 C70 doesn't accelerate smoothly

Post by Fendar »

When I barely touch the gas pedal the car does not accelerate smoothly, it's very.. Jerky. If I mash the gas everything is smooth. The car isn't throwing any codes.. Ideas?

Now the ETS light is on, looks like its the common throttle problem.. going to have volvo look at it Monday morning. Hopefully they replace that dang throttle and dont give me hassle!

before you go to the dealer, I would try cleaning the ETM.

I'll bet the dealer will advise you to clean the ETM (for a charge), before they'll consider replacing the ETM.

that's correct, they'll make you pay for a cleaning and updating software, hoping the 200k/10 yr warranty passes by.

Wacky but true my friend. Good luck.

If they try that I'll just tell them to piss off and order the modified one from xemodex or whatever that company is in Canada. Hate to spend $600 because the Volvo engineeres designed the throttle while they were drunk. Sigh.

Any good write ups for removing the throttle on a 2001 turbo c70?

yes, do a search on you tube. There is a very nice instructional video from a fellow S80 owner on removal and cleaning.

You would be surprised what a good cleaning can accomplish. If this fails you have more ammunition when you go to the dealer

Applies to the C70/V70.

Cool thanks. If it doesn't look to difficult I'll give it a shot this weekend before my appointment Monday. I read you need to replace the gasket when cleaning, is this an autozone item? Or dealership.

Well I'm at the dealer right now, turns out it was the ETM. They have one in stock and are replacing it now. Pretty easy and no hassle! I also get really loud noise over 25mph that is apparantly because of a bad hub, they gonna order the part, $550 ouch. Oh and a sway bar $230. At least I don't have to spend a grand on the ETM too.
