960 radiator cooling fan

Post by irby »

:(
This fan continued to run after the engine was cut off until my battery went way down. Question: Is this fan controlled by an internal fan motor thermostat or does it get the run signal from somewhere else??

Thanks

The fan is started by a thermostat that is connecting the fan relay coil to ground. Also the ACC control unit is connected to the same terminal. So it is a posibility that the fan is running because of the ACC. Most probably you have a thermostat problem.

BTW, this has never happened again. I now believe that the weather was just very hot and the car was put into the garage where the air circulation was poor, requiring a long time for the fan to cool the engine.

Thanks
