Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.
My local dealer today said my car won't pass inspection if I don't get a new headlight lens (a rock put a pellet sized hole in -- light still works fine). Then he said it would cost $520! Are they nuts? It's just a piece of glass!
Okay, so am I being unreasonable thinking we can do this for a bit less money? How so?
This was after they hit me for lower engine mounts to the tune of $900 -- another inspection item. I'm feeling Volvo Cash Trauma.
The least expensive lens' can be found on E-Bay buy it now for about $50. It is an easy DIY change. If your other lens is sandblasted you might want to change both.
Yeah, that's why we call them stealerships. Check ebay, you can get headlight lenses, as Jot said, for $50-$70. Which lower engine mounts are they referring to? The hydraulic ones rarely fail. My guess is that they are talking about the lower side engine mount and the torque mount. Both of which, should cost less than $100 together for the parts and can be installed in a little over an hour.
