2000 v40 vibration while braking after rotor and pad replace

2000 v40 vibration while braking after rotor and pad replace

Hi, Car is a 2000 v40 with approx 63000 miles. Even after replacing front rotors and pads there is a vibration from the front end while braking. It is much better than it was before these components were replaced but there is still a very noticeable vibration. A little history... last winter this car hit, in the drivers words, "the mother of all potholes" which blew out 1 of the front tires. I have taken a pretty good look under the front and cannot see any bent or broken components. Old rotors and pads definitely were in need of replacement.

Remove the rotors and clean the hub bearing where it mates with the rotor. New England is harsh on metals. If the hub is corroded and not flat the rotor will be as well. ( buy a can or duplicolor caliper paint and give a spray on the hub to prevent further corrosion. Takes 10 min to dry

If the hub was clean and flat then suspect a bad rotor. Many of the local chains stack them too high. I had a brake business in Worcester and almost everything purchased from a local auto parts store was warped from stacking. I found a local brake parts distributor and never had that issue again.

Go to http://www.centricparts.com and find a local distributor. You will pay less than at a local parts store and the quality is top notch.
You are looking for rotors that are mill balanced and double disc ground.

Thanks JDS60R and 850 turbo1. I will give that a try. The hubs were pretty corroded but the discs went on so thought things were ok. Makes much sense now that I think about it.

I went to the Centricparts site—they don't sell to consumers, or am I missing something?

FOLLOW UP ; Thanks for all the suggestions. I did take off the front rotors again and did remove a small amount of rust from the hubs, but... no difference still same shimmying feel like warped rotors. While test driving again to try to determine the problem I pulled up on the emergency brake only and sure enough i got a vibration. Since the rear rotors/ pads provide the e-brake function on these cars I had a closer look. With the wheels off and spinning the hub i could feel the rotor bind during it's 360 degree rotation in a couple of areas on the rotor. Sure enough after changing out the rear rotors and fitting new pads problem is solved! First car I ever got that effect from the rear rotors/ pads. Thanks for the suggestions.

p.s. not my car. It belongs to my fiance's son and does not get driven hardly at all during college semesters which is probably part of the problem.
