Hi I recently brought a V70 2.5T and am having a few teething issues,
1, it seems to think the doors are open all the time, the interior lights are always on if put in door open mode, they dont even go out after ignition is started, I was wondering where the sensors are that let it know so i can check them. Ive taken the fuse out, im fairly sure its the drivers side, as thats the footwell light that stays on, the passenger side goes out.
2. the alarm lights only flash twice upon unlocking not once when locking (maybe the two are related)
3. I may as well be in the car before the key fob works, my v40 works from 15ft away using the same battery, what should i try first?
sorry for all the questions
cheers

Sorry this doesn't answer your query, but maybe when someone with experience answers yours, I will be enlightened also.
Had similar problems on my 99 XC70 Wagon. Battery drained three times. First thought it was switch in driver's door, then in left passenger (rear) door. Always had some lights on when they shouldn't be. Used the headliner switch to shut down all interior lights ( doesn't stop floor lights). Since battery was 5 or 6 years old, even though it tested OK, I put in new battery one month ago. Still haven't turned interior lights back on, but most recently have had a number of occasions when door locks would not co-operate--sometimes relocking after I had unlocked, sometimes the reverse. Oh for a Fintstones chariot!!!

The microswitch is within the door latch mechanism which is within the door panel itself.
If the car doesn't think the door is shut, it won't arm the alarm system, which is why you're not getting that flash when locked.

The range on my car is terrible too; it will work at most 10 ft away. It must be something about the frequencies Volvo uses.
Whitewagon, if the drivers door thinks it is still open, it will not lock with the central locking system to keep you from locking your keys in the car. My remote also randomly locks my car when I get close to it, but I think the button gets pinched easily.

cheers for your reply
so you wouldnt recommend me trying to improve the range of the fob, mine literally will work by the front doors but not by the back, its pretty poor really.
so its the evil little red latch is it, right off to the shed to get the star drive's out then.

well it took me a while to get round to it but i finally took the lock apart, lots of swearing and a little blood later, and i have the little red (well mine was yellow) leaver in my hand, in perfect nick, not broken, hmmm. So no option but to put it back together having fixed nothing, or so i think, once the door card was back on as if by magic, it all works. the interior lights and the alarm all fixed. strange, managed to forget to connect the fuel cap/boot release cable though, quite embarrassing at the pump i can tell you.
next to try this for the key fob range

The other option on the remote is to stick it under your chin when you press the button. It sounds stupid and looks kinda stupid but it greatly extends the range.

4-21-11...I have a 98 v70r...key fob is chronic...I suspect that the receiver module located, behind the glove box, has a chronic open circuit...I say that because the fix for the ABS module and my cruise control module was a faulty exterior plug to printed circuit board soldiered connection failures. Secondly, the fact that the key fobs works fine one minute then not all or poorly the next...I suspect a chronic soldier joint...anyway I am going to check it out soon...I'll post the results.
Also, my interior light next to the rear view is chronic too...you say it a red or yellow lever in the door lock problem? Can someone explain that?
Lastly, my door lock are chronic when it 100+ outside...I replaced one and it works well. Poor manufacturing design, in my opinion.

The Volvos of that generation have the receiver in a terrible place -- behind/on top of the instrument cluster. Alas, my S70 also gets about 10-15 feet for range and that's it (embarrassingly, the 960 gets better range). The P2s all have it in the UEM (mirror), except the C70. The P3s (07- S80/V70/XC60) either have the RRX (for cars without keyless) in the headliner or the KVM (for cars with keyless/PCC) has a network of antennas to choose from (one in each door handle, one in the trunk, and two inside).jblackburn wrote:The range on my car is terrible too; it will work at most 10 ft away. To make matters worse, the cars of that era use 314MHz for remote keyless entry, which doesn't reach that far. The PCCs on the P3 cars use 902.16 MHz and 903.575 MHz (for two-way communication at up to 100m in clear space), which is a) relatively uncrowded and b) a frequency with a farther throw.

I figured it had to do something with that - it seems like American cars claimed the better frequencies. My dad's Jeep will unlock from the other side of the house - a brick house, a Ford reaches almost as far, and I could remote-start my Chevy Impala rental car from way across the parking lot.
