320bhp autobox damage begins no slippage 97 855 T-5

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

320bhp autobox damage begins no slippage 97 855 T-5

Post by charlyW »

I have began to see damage in my 97 855 T5's autobox at 320bhp at the wheels, although its just fluid going brown and no gearbox slippage it gives you all some idea of how much power you can put through the AW50-42 autobox. Next step is 350-400 bhp and I will report back to let you know how much damage then but I think the age of the boxes doesnt help now.

Excellent, thanks for the report. 320 is a lot of wheel horsepower. A lot. Good work.

I'll sign you up for two free mythical MVS T-shirts* if you post a YouTube video** of your spedometer as you're accelerating onto a highway. And a few photos of the 850 and the engine bay.

* "mythical" because I promise them, but they never actually get made and sent out. However, you'll be next on the list, after the MVS moderator crew when they happen.
** try to have the passenger shoot the video for safety reasons
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

320 at the wheels, Nice. Have you considered pulling the transmission out and overhauling it? Do you have a dyno sheet, I'd love to see whats under the curve...

I'll guarantee you it will pack in soon.
For a long time, it's been established that any HP much over 300-305 is about it for the AW-42,
(unless you ALWAYS drive it like a granny).

hey there...
i have recently dynoed my 96 T5 and got 324hp on wheel.
it was on controlled environment (on dyno machine...yeah), no slippage felt.

but real time roadtest, felt the gbox slipped between gears at 6000~6500rpm...
it was a feeling like driving a manual tranny, when you hit on gas, but halfway clutch..
