740GLE with ABS

Post by soarhead »

Have 1989 740GLE auto almost since new. Now close on 200K but still like new. However, I have a problem with a loud hum from both front wheels. Investigation shows brakes on both sides are binding, car is slow and fuel consumption increased. Intermittant ABS warning light on dash. Sometimes I feel ABS working under light braking! Problem seems to have started when I renewed flexihoses to calipers. I cannot successfully bleed the front brakes. No fluid comes out. Could an airlock be causing the problem? Could overheating of the discs cause the ABS to trigger? Any suggestions welcome!

It is CRITICAL that you bleed the brakes correctly. Replacing the front flex lines will definitly introduce air into the brake system and this air MUST be bled out. Your front brakes are not working properly and are dangerous. If you are having trouble bleeding your brakes please have your car towed to a repair shop and have the brake system bled by a technician.
