For some strange reason I was under the (FALSE) impression that P2 cars did not "muck up" like Gen 1 cars do,
AND BOY WAS I WRONG!
For you owners with over 90-100K it's time to have someone (or you, if you know how) to look at your breather box pressure.
I am doing one now that came up with positive pressure with only 100K miles.
This is a Volvo with good service recordes (albeit serviced at 7500 miles with dino oil).
The breather box is completely full of oil and the line that goes into the oil pan was 100% BLOCKED with sludge!!!!!
I also found that a 2.5T is one nasty SOB to do a breather box!
You cannot remove the last bolt on the intake manifold, it's blocked by the thermostat housing,
(good going Volvo, make it nice and easy to do)!
Obviously there is a way around this but not easily.
I've done breather boxes on cars with 150K miles and they were not half as clogged as this one is.
YOU NEED TO SWITCH OVER TO SYNTHETIC OR CHANGE THE OIL EVERY 3500-4000 MILES

They are all in the same location on the 5-cylinder engines under the intake manifold; the new configurations may be a bit different than mine depending on the year.

Hello, Is positive vacuum at the oil dipstick tube enough for a clean bill of health? My 2002 has 109K (39K are mine). The previous owner took GREAT care of the car at the dealership and I use synthetic oil. No leaks so far. Has anyone heard of a maximum life expectancy? Kira

It's inside the engine, the intake manifold must be removed, it's under that

Yup, if you have a positive vacuum you've got nothing to worry about yet. If synthetic was used from day 1, the system may be perfectly clear and will stay that way.Hello, Is positive vacuum at the oil dipstick tube enough for a clean bill of health?
