'95 850 Turbo stalls at sustained highway speeeds

Post by kr9600 »

I believe this subject has been discussed ad nauseum elsewhere and I have read some of the posts but I have yet to read a solution found. My '95 850 Turbo (185K miles) drives wonderfully on secondary roads but will stall on occasion at sustained highway speeds. I should mention the car sat outside unused for a year prior to my purchase a few months ago. Also, when I say stall, that may not be what actually happens. I have no accelerator response but the dashboard instrument lights do not come on. That only occurs after I stop the car.

The problem happened once about a month ago and then a few days ago it happened a few times after only going for about a mile on the freeway. A few weeks prior to this I had made a trip to Boston and back (all freeway driving - about 85 miles each way) with no problems whatsoever. I have always been able to restart the car (sometimes with difficulty, sometimes easy restart) and drive it back on secondary roads (45 - 50mph) no problem. By the way, at no time did the check engine light ever come on. I do have it come on periodically showing PO137 - 02 Circuit low Voltage Bank 1, Sensor 2 - but never after a stalling incident.

Second Quick Question: Where is the place in the engine where I can jump start the AC compressor. I want to add freon but the compressor won't go because the freon level is so low at this point. I saw someone else do it to check that the compressor was working but I can't remember where it was. I posted this question before but then could not find my question so I don't know if there were any responses.

Thank you all. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Any suggestions?

Here is a thread that can help with AC issues
..and here is one specifically for the jump start.

As for the turbo I will have to defer to others in the forum. I would suggest you check your hoses for dry rot/etc, just to rule out any of those.

hope this helps.
