Volvo S70 iSimple Tranzit install help?

Post by sgowda2011 »

Hi everyone, i bought the iSimple Tranzit FM modulator yesterday but i need some help on installing it. It requires installation of a ground wire and a power source wire, i am kinda confused as to doing this part. If anyone has installed this system or any other FM modulator it would be helpful for me if you could send me some instructions or advice.
Thanks

I took a look at the install manual for this product and while it does appear straight forward, it’s unfortunate that they didn’t go a step further and use a remote power switch instead of that manual on/off switch. The problem with that is if you forget to turn it off, it’ll be pulling juice from your battery. While it probably won’t pull as much as your headlights, it’s still a drain on the battery.

OK, with the obnoxious opinion aside, The easiest thing to do is first find the location where the transmitter will be installed. Once that’s done, you’ll have to run a fused wire from the battery, which is the easiest thing to do. You could try to find an existing wire that you could tap into, but finding a wire with enough power to add your device is not easily done. Once the device is in its mounting location, you should be able to use a bare piece of metal wherever the device is located. I not, you’ll have to pull another wire to a common grounding location.

One thought that just hit me; find out how much power this thing draws. On my car, there’s a set of wires at the back of the console that ‘should’ be powering a light for the rear passengers, but the complete harness is missing so I just have two wires hanging loose. Maybe that provides enough power for you. Then it would be a matter of mounting the transmitter in the armrest or under it for a clean install. If the unit doesn’t take that much, you could use that set of wires, or maybe the wires that power the light in the ashtray.

Most everything in your does does; the question really is the number of amps the devices pulls.
