Thinking of buying S80 Topic is solved

Hi everyone. I used to be a diehard Volvo fanatic. My first car was a Volvo. I have also survived two horrific crashes in Volvos coming out without a scratch. I progressed and moved up to Mercedes quality around 10 years ago. And now have owned three mercedes....I ran into some quality issues with my S class, and with my wife's ML....but nothing to the likes of what I am seeing on this board in regards to the S80's transmission and what looks like a terrible turbo....I also noticed that the engine mounts seem to be made out of balsa wood.

What I want to know is what year Volvo got their act together? I can tell you that for a Mercedes ML, it wasnt until 2001. I wouldnt buy an ML from 98-2000 for any price now....but if you can find a 2001, I would highly recommend it.

So, I see a ton of problems with 99's, 2000's, but not much mention of 01's - 04's...is that only because they havent hit that 60 or 70K mileage range yet?

If anyone has a 2001 or 2002, please let me know if you would recommend the car based on your experiences...

Avoid '99 to 01 unless there's an ETM recall.

I bought a used 2001 S80 non-turbo last year and have put 20,000 miles on it since.

The only problem I have had was some rough idling on occasion.This seems to have been fixed by one bottle of valvoline fuel system cleaner. The glove box and sunroof rattle a bit sometimes.

It seems most of complaints are years prior to 2001. I sure hope so.
