v40 campulley marking absent

Post by volvoskim »

A friend recently had his v40 in for the variable valve timing unit to be replaced on his 2001 v40 here in the uk.
ever since the engine check light as been with code po340,indicating camshaft sensor that his garage as replaced with no effect, and the car is way down on power.
Im just checking the cam timing to see if that is the cause, but on the new variable valve timing pulley there is no marking for the timing, despite a lot of time looking for one, anybody else had this problem

cheers Ian

was it a reputable shop that did the timing change, is the engine making any weird noise?, correct me if Im wrong but this sounds like a botched timing job. CE light loss of power  does not sound good.

theres a way to see if the timing is correct, there should be a post about it, its a bit tricky, but it can be done, but if there is even one tooth off you probably bent some vavles dont drive the car it will only do more damage to the engine.

Finally managed to pull it altogether using the haynes manual for the v40, code po340 was caused by the cam timing error, that cost him £100 for a new position sensor that didnt cure the problem.
The problem was simply cam timing, being 3 teeth out on each cam,the car now runs superbly with no engine management light.
