Saving vinyl?

Post by David-Omaha »

The last two owners of my 740 GLE didn't take very good care of it, so the vinyl is hard, and in some places cracked (mostly driver's seat, driver's seat is pretty bad, period). Can the vinyl be "saved" with any certain products? (already tried one application of Amor-All, didn't seem to have any effect). Dash is cracked, too, but I'm thinking that may be a lost cause. :?:

I'm not sure if you have vinyl or leather.

If its vinyl and its cracked then its over. A lot can be done with leather. Kevin at www.advleather.com is my go to guy . He will tell you if it can be saved or not.

If it is physically cracked all the way through then head to an upholsterer. You should look at marine grade vinyl. It comes in many colors and textures and is relatively cheap. It wears like iron and looks just like the original leather of most cars.

If you post a pic you will get better info on what to do.

The seats are definitely vinyl: the fabric backing is a dead giveaway. Thank you for the response.
