Hey all, long time listener first time caller here.
My 2001 XC70 has been driving my crazy with burnt out position bulb lights, but in the last few months I've had problems with even more lights.
1. My right front turn signal blinks quickly and I get an error message saying "failure". I have stopped the car, and verified that the front, side and rear signals are all working fine. Any ideas? I went to look at the fuses but didn't see a fuse for those lights. I'm kind of baffled on this one.
2. I had new brake pads put on a few months ago, and about 15 miles afterward every time I would brake the "check brake light" message would pop up. I checked, and sure enough both rear brake lights are working fine. I also checked the fuse and it is good to go.
3. Then, I got this one last night: dipped bulb beam failure. I popped out the bulb (apparently I wasn't supposed to touch the halogen) and it looked fine as well. Checked the fuses, and they are good to go. I've read up on a lot of other problems with this one...should I just replace it anyways even though it looks like it is fine? Especially after I touched it and got the oil from my finger on it?
Thanks in advance -- I've appreciated the help on ABS and position bulb failures from reading this forum previously. And God help whomever designed the electronics on this car, as he's got some 'splainin to do!
Problem with right front turn signal and brake light
I had the same problem but mine was on the left front. Ends up that my whole light connection was shot, the dealer charged me $35 to change it out. They were under there fixing something up and I think they just charged me for the part. I looked at it after and I am sure you can do yourself.

You can clean the bulb up with alcohol and it will be OK as long as it has not been turned on, which would burn your fingerprints into the quartz glass...
Your problem with burned out bulbs and fault code signals might be caused by an over voltage condition due to a bad voltage regulator...The voltage at the battery when the engine is running should be no more than a little over 14 volts...If it is higher than that the voltage regulator is bad and needs to be replaced...

Thanks for the ideas. This is really stupid of me, but I actually looked at the high beam on the right side, not the low beam. The plastic casing/wiring harness was blackened and actually broke upon removal. Part #8678122 available for $9 from the dealer, along with $14 for the bulb. It sounds like that is what happened to you and the dealer gave you a pretty good deal.
Is there an easy way to check the voltage? I'll wipe down the bulb with alcohol.
