starting problems after fuel pump recall and replacement

Post by LibJicha »

My 2002 V70 was part of the recent recall. The dealership replaced the fuel pump, and since then (off and on for 3 weeks) I sometimes have starting issues. Sometimes the engine screeches like it does when the car is already running and the key is turned to the starting position. It's a lot like the fingernails on a blackboard thing. At other times, the car starts very roughly - it sort of "coughs" and struggles to start and the "reduced engine performance" indicator comes on. Such a surprise, right! That code isn't in the manual, by the way. At other times it starts with no problems. When I called the dealership and asked if they have had any problems like mine, they asked if the sounds are coming from the back seat where the fuel pump is, suggesting that if they're not it can't be the fuel pump. My questions is whether the fuel pump could be malfunctioning and the gas is having problems getting to the engine. I'm interested in anyone's experiences similar to mine. Thanks!

Never heard of this issue but it has to be related to the fuel pump. The car was running fine before you took it in so I would just take it back to them and have them take a look at the car.
