Code Reader

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Code Reader

Post by 00_Coupe »

Hello

I would like to know if there is a code reader which will read/delete the module codes in a 2000 S80. Such as Airbag Service Code.. I have a regular OBDII but this will not work.

Now I have a local volvo only repair shop (not dealer) that is able to do this. What do you think they use?

Thanks,

I can't say what your shop is using, but I got a BSR PPC diagnostic unit to do those tasks. It reads and clears all the codes on all the modules of a 99-04 Volvo S80. It was about $200 new. Unfortunately, they are no longer made and I am not aware of any other solution (other than the VIDA reader used by the dealership for mega$$$$). If you can find a used one I would highly recommend it -- it is a great investment and must-have for the DIY S80 owner. Personally, I would never give the Volvo stealer one nickel I didn't absolutely have to.

I have the same unit and it is super...Unfortunately BSR has discontinued it and they are coming out with a new, imroved unit...It has been about 6 months now and they haven't presented it yet...AND it is about $400...

IRONY!!!...I am on BSR's e-mail list and I got a price quote on the new PPC-3 from them this morning...They must be montoring MVS...The price of the new unit is $516 USD...OUCH!!!

The thread question yesterday regarding this unit was for an S-80...The old PPC and the new PPC-3 work not only with the S-80, they work with nearly all OBDII equipped Volvos with a few exceptions...If one is contemplating buying one, it would be best to check with BSR to see if yours is covered...I know that my daughter's 1998 C-70 is not...
