questions about a possible 2002 V70 purchase

Post by jbrown122 »

There is a 2002 V70 for sale locally. I plan on taking it out for a drive Monday. Is there anything besides the usual stuff (suspension, brakes, tires) I should look for? I have a few questions first. do the 02s have DIM and ETM problems? what about problems with the trannies? TIA

tranny and ETM issues in the 2002.

Do a search on tranny failures. '03 and newer have no tranny or ETM issues like the '99-02 MY

Check it like you would any other car that you want to buy. I bought a 2002 V70, non turbo, non AWD, and I'm glad I did! I'll also note that the bank liked this model better than the V70XC that I was also considering, even though it had less miles. As for the ETM, my owner's manual had a sticker on it to inform me that the warranty for it was extended until 2012. I get great gas mileage- I just logged 274 miles on a half a tank, I think I could get 500 miles on a tank (highway) if I drive conservative. I like the ride, the comfort, I'm 6'2 and very comfortable.

Thanks. went to look at the car (couldnt drive it.. had no plates :? )
But I did take it a few times around the lot. started fine, sounded good. CEL was on.. that kind of put me off. It was comfortable and clean and took bumps pretty nicely. I might go back to look again, if not.. I'll start looking at an 03+
