Same as all the others
Please do some searching, as there are a gazillion transmission threads.
However....

Flush the tranny
Have the latest software installed (dealer)
Reset all the adaptions and
do the drive cycle after that.

For an 04 I would suggest your dealer do it or a qualified Volvo mechanic
Only a dealer can give you the upgraded software.

Thanks, I have a very good Volvo guy, has worked on all on my volvo's at one time or another,240,S70 & now S60, just bought it for my wife. He checked it out & drove it before I bought it, he did not see anything at that time, should he be able to upgrade software or strictly dealer on that. If dealer is it expensive?

Yes it is (usually expensive), but unless he has a subscription to VIDA he cannot access and buy the software and for him to do one thing (Flush) then you asking the dealer to just download software and reset adaptions, they REALLY will sock it to you just because they can!
But ask him, he may have a subscription if he does a lot of late model Volvos.

Where are you located?
EDIT:
Never mind I looked.
SC is not the best state to own a Volvo, I know of no competant dealers there.
However if you can take a drive to NC, there are several there.
University Volvo in Charlotte is supposed to be pretty good

Thank you for your advice, I will talk to my mechanic tomorrow. I just had an aftermarket stereo installed by a good shop yesterday, could that have affected anything computer wise? Any other problems you know about in this year & model to be aware of?

04's are pretty god, no worse or better than any other 04 Volvo
I hope they did the stereo right or yes, there could be issues but if it's working properly now, it should be fine

Thanks, stereo is fine, could installing stereo have affected any other electronics or adaptions, etc. I did notice ! light on, & SRS & airbag needs service light also on after installation of stereo. Saw another member weigh in on resetting these, I will try this.

That's because they did not disconnect the battery before removing the climate control to get at the stereo
Dealer only can reset it, it would be a good time for them to do whatever tranny works they need to do
