Does anyone have the proceedure for replacing an oil pan in a 2005 S40, 2.4i ? I'm assuming there's a specific bolt tightening sequence and such? any tips/tricks?
I'm also being told there's 2 pans... one w/ a oil level sensor, one w/out.. any idea how I identfy which one I need?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
I can't find any reference to two sumps on VADIS but if there is an oil level sensor built in there will be a warning light on the dash for oil level.
The attached is the VADIS method of replacing the sump:
Bill.

thank you for the welcome and the instructions.
Doesn't seem to be any availible service manuals stateside, unless you have access to the VADIS CD's (which I don't).
No idea what they are referring to w/ the pan/sump and the oil level sensor.. I'm guessing I don't have that equiped on my car be cause after cranking the pan, and it dropping about 2 quarts of oil on the pavement, I still didn't have any lights on the dash.
I guess no one knows of a inexpensive source for a replacement pan, eh? I'm seeing around $400, which seems incredibly steep.

Our sponsor, MyVolvoPartsOnline, has it listed at $319.95. Still expensive for a metal box with no lid!!
You could try Erie Vo-Vo for a used part. Their reputation is very good.
Links to both sponsors are at the top of the forum.
The part number is 8692614.
