won't start no spark

Post by Bill S70 T5 »

ok, this one is really getting to me as I've been "Playing" with it for 2 days now!

Car is 98 S70 T5, has been maintained good etc. couple of days ago went to start it and it turned great but wouldn't fire.

during my troubleshooting and as I was "in there" I changed the plugs, distributor cap, & rotor. I checked the resistance at the coil between +/- and was seeing around 4 Ohms, have read it should be around 0.7 to 1. (something?). so thought ok lets try that. only place I could get one was a stealership at $160.00, so gritting my teeth with stress I got one. put it on and still no spark, but correct resistance now...lol

replaced the coil to distributor lead, still no spark. some of you may be saying why not throw a whole set of leads at it, well I probably will, but, can't see why 5 cylinder leads would all fail at the same time without the slightest prob before?

There are no faults in OBD.

I've read a couple of posts about a cam sensor causing starting probs, could it be this? Is there a test to check this? and would it just up and die with no warning?

This car runs, or did run like a dream, so am really baffled

It does sound like you have a bad CPS, unfortunately sometimes it has no codes at all. If you can try a known working one would be the easiest way. BTW, Bosch sensor is your best bet

got a new CPS from the stealership at $200, started right up like it was new!!

Very happy my toy is running again, depressed at the $400 in parts it cost me to do it...lol

Still I think I did the right diagnostics in the right order just looking for a spark can be a pain sometimes. I'm sure we've all been through it

Thanks as always for the good help, you were right on the money with the CPS :)
