Steering Wheel Vibration

Post by brendino453 »

Hey Everyone,
I've been plagued by this awful vibration felt through my steering wheel for a few months now. The vibration is only felt when I am coming to a complete stop, say at a red light or stop sign. It only lasts a second or two then everything feels normal again. I've recently had new tires put on, all balanced and aligned, and I also had rotors and calipers replaced as I thought that was the cause of the problem. I was told that the rotors were warped and that is usually the cause of the vibration. However the vibration has continued since then and that was in late June. This problem does not occur when I shift the car into neutral while stopping so I'm very perplexed as to what it may be. Any input to this issue is greatly appreciated so I can stop normally for once again.

Thanks

If the rotor was warped, you could notice the brake pedal would pulsate when applying the brakes.
How many miles do u have on your car? Inspect the ball joint and tie rod ends (inner and outer).

Look for cracked inner CV boots. As the car downshifts to come to a stop, it may be causing a bad CV joint to move back and forth.

If you accelerate HARD from a stop, do you get the same sensation?

There is about 160,000 miles on the car. I have been out of town all weekend, I'll jack the car up tomorrow and take a look at those things. Thanks for all the help and I'll let you know how it looks tomorrow.

Thanks

Sorry I forgot to add, I just took it out for a drive and accelerated hard multiple times, but I did not get the same sensation. The problem seems to be at its worst when the climate is very warm also. I also have been getting an excessive amount of brake dust on the front rims which has never really happened that much before.
